  • Support the Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES) and Career Experiential Opportunities (CEO) programs at USG by creating and facilitating workshops for over one hundred community college, and USG college students in Montgomery County.

  • Contacted George B. Thomas Saturday School to create a partnership with service-learning in the ACES program; this December 13 ACES students volunteered at two MCPS high schools and offered time management and study skills support.

  • Provided case management data tracking to improve student retention, and research reports to present to staff of both programs.

Became certified in level 1 and 2 CRLA certifications and trained new social science tutors.

  • The final year working wrote an education research paper and created a presentation in educational psychology for level 3 certification. After certification completion supervised all tutors and assisted with interviewing, hiring, and training tutors in all majors.

Loan Coaching Pilot Program

UMB Financial Social Work Initiative

  • Attended 10 sessions facilitated by a financial literacy expert on financial wellness discussing federal student loans, private loans, loan repayment plans, and other financial resources.

  • Passed a mock loan coaching session with facilitator supervision and got trained to coach students about their loans.

  • Will coach 10 MSW students at UMB through the process of developing a personal student loan repayment strategy by the Summer of 2022.
     

 
DREAM Student Leader

  • Re-launched DREAM Disability Justice, a student organization dedicated to advocacy for UMB students with disabilities, and providing events, meetings, and social opportunities. 

  • Hosted Disability Awareness events such as a Disability Media Party and a Disability Affinity Space

  • Serve on the UMB School of Social Work SGA with initiatives including tuition and fees, advising support, and advocating for accessibility in virtual learning. 

DREAM WORK PRODUCTS
  • In October 2021, DREAM created a 15-page proposal to add accessibility and disability justice courses and field placements to the UMB School of Social Work. On October 25th, the proposal was presented in a PowerPoint presentation to the Master’s Program Committee, a Faculty Committee that approves changes in the MSW curriculum  

    •  The Master’s Program Committee received the proposal well, and the chair is in continued contact with DREAM to infuse elements of the proposal into current MSW courses to be more inclusive of accessibility and disability justice in the Social Work field.

  • In November 2021, DREAM created an Independent Study course called SOWK 798: Disability and Accessibility: A Critical Perspective, focusing on the intersectionality of accessibility in education, employment, media, and other domains. 

    • Three students will be enrolled in the independent study course in Spring 2022, working on creating an ableism awareness training and outlining guidelines for accessibility in macro and clinical social work through a drafted training manual.

  •  On December 3rd,  2021, DREAM co-sponsored the Ableism and Disability Justice Virtual Panel Discussion. DREAM created the event flyer, assisted with panel recruitment, discussion questions for the panelists, and sent an MSW student representative to serve on the panel.

  • Completed a 30-hour training on issues such as self-harm, addiction, physical/sexual abuse, and relationship violence. 

  • Volunteer 2-4 hours monthly helping anonymous texters move from crisis mentality to a cool calm using empathy and good contact techniques. Perform risk assessments for imminent risk of suicide and support emergency situations as needed.
